Wicks form the most important component of an oil lamp. Cotton wicks
may be thin, long pieces of cotton or may be round in shape, for
various applications. Cotton, being non-toxic, is both safe and
efficient for use in the manufacture of candle wicking.
The following types of wicks are
usually manufactured:
- Zinc Core - These are cotton wicks with a thin metal wire
core made of Zinc.
- Tin Core - These are also cotton wicks with a thin metal
wire core made of Tin.
- Paper Core - These are cotton wicks with a core made of a
stiff paper, like cardboard.
- Coreless Cotton - These are completely cotton braided
wicks and contain no core material.
- Hemp Core - These are available in cotton braid with hemp
core, or in 100% hemp braid.
