Making of Elastic Cords

Elastic cords are manufactured on braiding machines and are filled with rubber. The cover yarn that is braided over the rubber fill can be cotton, polyester, nylon or polypropylene. Elastic Cord Material

Along with rubber core, the elastic cords have different covering made from nylon, polypropylene, polyester and cotton. These protect the inner elastic. Then there is propylene covered elastic cord that resists aging and also protects the cord from UV rays, moisture and mildews. Nylon and polyester also posses these properties but excessive exposure to UV rays may damage these. Also you will find the elastic cords having cotton as a covering material but it is not as durable as other synthetic material. Types of Elastic Cords

There are at least three major types of elastic cords- bolo cords, draw cords and shock cords.

Draw Elastic Cords

Elastic draw cords are generally used for providing a comfortable waistband by the garment industry. In the elastic draw string, the drawstring runs through the center of the elastic. There are some draw cords with tipping too. These types of elastic cords serve various industrial & commercial applications like in the manufacturing of sport shoes strings etc.

Shock Elastic Cords

Shock cords are made of one or more elastic strands forming a core and are covered in a woven sheath generally of nylon or cotton. They are also known as bungee cords. Elastic bungee cords are available in variety of sizes & dimensions and are usually covered with a woven cotton or polypropylene sheath. These shock elastic cords can be tied up with hooks, rings or other hardware depending upon the usage. Elastic cords with hooks are used for carrying and tying cargo and for suspension purposes. Specialized bungee cords like those used in bungee jumping may be entirely made of elastic strands.

Bolo Elastic Cords

Bolo Cords are braided round cords made with such materials as vinyl, rayon leather etc. along with elasticated structure. Elastic bolo cords are extensively used in the manufacturing of such garments as sports wear track suits etc. as also for chokers or bracelets and other jewelry.
