industrial straps? Let's first know about the basic meaning of these two
types of nylon strap material.
Nylon 6-6
Nylon 6-6 Strap
Nylon-6,6 is made
from two monomers each of which contain 6 carbon atoms and therefore it is
called "Nylon6-6". The two monomers of which nylon 6,6 is made of
are 'hexamethylenediamine' and 'adipic acid'. Nylon 6,6 is the most
preferable material for making nylon straps due to its many properties. For
example, it has a melting point of 265°C (which is quite high for a
synthetic fiber.) This property makes it friction and heat resistant. This,
in turn gives nylon 6-6 material the capacity to withstand heatsetting for
twist retention- so essential for making straps and webbings etc. Apart from
this, nylon 6,6 is very resilient. It also has a dense structure with small,
evenly spaced pores. Although this makes it difficult to dye nylon 6-6 but
once dyed it acquires superior colorfastness and does not fades easily. This
makes the nylon straps made from nylon 6-6 material more suitable even for
decorative purpose along with strenght as is required in such items as
shoulder straps and watch straps
Nylon 6
Nylon-6 is made from a monomer called caprolactam. Nylon 6
fibres are tough and have high tensile strength along with elasticity and
lustre. The other properties of nylon 6 include high resistance to abrasion
and chemicals, its wrinkle-proof nature and capacity of absorbing absorb up
to 2.4% of water. However, this absorption capacity also decreases its
tensile strength as compared to the nylon 6,6 material.
As nylon 6,6 has a tighter molecular structure than nylon 6, it can better
resist crushing, matting and stain penetration. Therefore, nylon 6,6 is a
more preferred nylon strap material for application requiring high physical
strength, ductility, heat resistance and chemical resistance.
