What Are Polyester Webbings?

Polyester webbing is a narrow fabric made with the synthetic polyester fabric. As polyester is one of the high strength materials used for making webbings, it is used extensively by the narrow fabrics manufacturers for making polyester webbings and other products like polyester webbing slings and straps etc. Apart from the standard polyester webbings, suppliers also have polyester elastic webbing which is thicker and stronger than regular elastic. Polyester Webbings Properties

• Polyester webbings can absorb about 0.4% of moisture at a temperature of 20 degree Celsius and 65% humidity.
• Its melting point is about 260 degree Celsius. However, the working temperature of polyester is maximum 100 degree Celsius.
• As far as sensitivity to low temperature is considered, polyester shows no effect down to -40 degree Celsius.
• Polyester webbings also offer good resistance to acids in low concentration (maximum 10- 15%.)
• Polyester webbing has a lower rate of elongation under load. It only stretches 5 to 15 percent as against the nylon webbings that stretch about 20 to 30% of their initial length at 2500 lb.

However, along with these properties of polyester webbing that make it suitable for heavy industrial works, there are certain drawbacks too that have to be addressed while using polyester webbings. For example, polyester webbings can shrink at very high temperatures. The tensile strength of polyester can also get affected by alkalies though this depends upon temperature and time. At low concentration and at normal temperature, resistance to alkali is also good for polyester webbing but it is always better to avoid using polyester webbings in the presence of alkalies.
